|"The accomodation was absolutely what we were looking for on a lovely hill and full of silence.
The owner was a great host, tinformative, responsive, and able to help with small details like where to go to visit medieval villages or to buy groceries.
|"We loved the holiday, the area was absolutely beautiful.
We went to the Palio, the horse race in Siena which was a day we will never forget.
The property was gorgeous.
We had a lovely time & would definitely recommend it
|"I stayed at Castello di Maiano in September 2013 with our 3 kids and my parents. I wanted to stay in a genuine medieval Italian castle, and this place certainly delivered. It has all the charm and romance of being 500 years old with gigantic fireplaces, but also has large comfortable bedrooms each with a medium sized en suite bathroom. There are various configurations depending on size of your party - we had 3 floors of one wing with 5 bed/bath rooms, which was plenty. There also 3 more apartments, and yet another separate building with more rooms.
The main building we were in had a kitchen with clean, modern fittings. It wasn't huge, but you have to remember you're in an old castle and there is no flexibility on room sizes within existing stone walls! We self catered for a week, and it was fine. If you want 5 star resort style luxe rooms, then you shouldn't be looking at medieval castles in the first place.
The grounds are wonderful. The castello is on a small working vineyard and olive farm, and they make their own wine and olive oil. It was lovely to look out over the vines and across the neighbouring fields of sunflowers. There are also fig trees, blackberries, plum trees, and pear trees near the house. The kids loved picking delicious fruit to eat. We also enjoyed the large pool in the warm September sun.
The castello is in good location. About 4km from Monte San Savino, which has a lovely historical hilltop town with newer grocery shops at the base of the hill (good parking). The much smaller hilltop town of Ciggiano is actually quite close, just a short drive or an easy and pleasant 10 to 15 minute walk along a gravel road running right above the property. Ciggiano has a small grocery shop, pharmacy and restaurant. This place is also a great base in eastern Tuscany, with Arezzo about 30 mins drive and Siena about 60 mins.
The caretaker and his family live at the rear of the property, and he could not have been nicer or more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for him, even though it's not his job to be a concierge for guests. One night his family cooked dinner for our family and it was superb! It's 30 euro per head and offered on arrival, and I recommend it as a treat for yourself.
We all thought Castello di Maiano was a definite repeat stay.
|"Just a note to thank you for your help with the Maiano rental. We, all 20 of us, enjoyed the place very much. We had a great time. The view was fantastic, the house lovely and the caretakers cooperative.
Thanks again for all your help.
|"We LOVED the villa and everything about it. Also, I appreciate all the help I received through Ville in Italia. It was a great experience and I'd recommend your company and the villa to anyone interested. Thanks for everything.
|"The vacation was wonderful! The villa was beautiful and was exactly what we were looking for. No one really had anything bad to say about the villa and thought it was so old and historical. The caretakers were terrific and were always there when we needed something.
Perfect vacation and I will definitely tell all my friends of this villa and the company we rented through. Please ensure you tell all your staffn that I could not have planned this whole vacation without your help!
|"We had a fabulous time at the Castello di Maiano, and our very high expectations for the villa, the beauty of the area and the overall experience were exceeded!
We absolutely loved the villa, had an incredible time in the area and found both the owner and the support staff to be extremely warm, welcoming and helpful.
Thanks again for your help in setting up this trip and we look forward to coming back again soon!
