The village of S. Maria Alla Scala stands at the foot of Timpa di Acireale and huddles around the little harbour called Scalo Grande, then stretches out along the narrow seafront towards the south. At the southernmost tip of the village stands a water mill. La Timpa, a nature reserve, is a promontory about 80 metres high behind the Acireale coast, characterized by volcanic rocks covered by thick vegetation, and begins at the edge of Catania and ends at Riposto. Villa il Pino lies along the road leading to the village at the summit of the promontory and enjoys a beautiful panorama of the sea and of the cliffs. It is surrounded by a large, enclosed garden leading gently down to the sheer drop of the cliffs where, on a natural terrace, they have placed a bench from which you can enjoy a sensation of gazing at infinity (you are advised not to allow children near here because there is no fencing). The sea is about 300 metres from the house and can be reached along a path down the cliffs. The villa has been completely renovated with excellent taste, and is equipped with satellite-TV, stereo with CD-player, air-conditioning in the villa, and ceiling fans in the annex, washing-machine, barbecue. Outside there are two furnished verandas and various relaxation areas, all of them quiet and with a wonderful view. Acireale is about 3 kms away, Catania 16 kms and Taormina 40. In S. Maria alla Scala and in the little villages along the coast you will find excellent restaurants with an abundance of fresh fish. Beyond Riposto you will find large beaches suitable for children, within 15 minutes by car.
