The countryside around Fano is characterized by low hills decreasing in height as they approach the sea. The old town centre goes back to roman times and they are still regularly finding objects that can be traced back to the roman era. The town is a well-known seaside resort and the large sandy beaches here (Spiaggia del Lido and Spiaggia di Sassonia) are frequented by tourists looking not only for the seaside but also for tranquillity and good local cuisine. The old town centre has been restored in recent years and offers many attractions and good shopping. Villa Emilia is about 3 kms from the sea, in a quiet, secluded spot: the building goes back to the beginning of the 1900s, has a sober, elegant architecture, and the interiors are furnished with excellent quality old furniture, and the villa is equipped with: private swimming-pool (5x12m) with dressing-room and bathroom, a furnished garden with relaxation areas, a large covered veranda with barbecue, satellite-TV, stereo with CD player, dishwasher, washing-machine, microwave oven, private parking, and close-by there is a golf driving-range. The wardens live on the premises in an independent apartment, and a cooking service and cleaning service are available on request. The beaches are all well-equipped and sun-shades and deck-chairs can be booked, there are bars and excellent restaurants, and Fano is among the "Blue Flag" resorts (meaning that the sea is considered to be very clean). Rimini is about 50 kms away, Ancona 40 kms, and just a few kilometres away are the riviera at Conero and Urbino - one of the pearls of the renaissance.
