Ravello; Scala; Pontone: these villages and their bordering hamlets scattered about the mountains step down through valleys and ancient terraced gardens towards the sea and in convoy down the ancient Valli dei Mulini at Amalfi (the Valley of the Mills); Atrani and Minori are the oldest villages on the Amalfi Coast, and started out as the principal fortified ramparts in amalfi territory. These landscapes with their wonderful hidden scenes were often celebrated in paintings, watercolours and prints by the travelling romantics in the 1800s. This is the spectacular scene that opens up before you when you arrive at Villa Centerbe. The villa is in Minuta, part of Scala, just 2 kms from Ravello, it is on three levels that match the terraces in the surrounding garden. Villa Centerbe stands next to the romanesque church L'Annunziata which goes back to early christian times, and it is flanked by a cloister that in the old days was a laboratory for the working of officinal herbs, the garden of the villa was the plot where the herbs were cultivated. The tranquillity and scenic landscape make this villa the ideal place for a relaxing holiday but without giving up the most modern creature comforts: satellite-TV, air conditioning in the living-room and in the bedrooms, internet WI-FI connection, washing-machine, dishwasher. This is also an ideal spot for those who would like to attend the concert season which is held every year at Ravello during the Wagner festival. The nearest beach is a Atrani, about 7 kms away.
