At the far east end of the island of Sicily, the Nature Reserve at Vendicari is one of the most interesting protected areas on the island. Vendicari has an intense and wild beauty: walking along the footpaths in the area you come upon beaches of fine, rosy sand such as those along the sandy shores of Eloro and at the splendid "Cala Mosche", or rocky coasts dropping sheer into the sea, where the sea breaks noisily onto the cliffs. The house is just outside the reserve, and stands at the centre of an olive grove in a spot where tranquillity reigns. The furnishings are in mediterranean style, with wooden painted furniture or covered in material, tended with love by a well-known fashion designer. The house is equipped with a dishwasher, washing-machine, barbecue and ceiling-fans, although the house is particularly cool due to the way it was built. About 800 metres away is a guarded parking area, and from there you can walk on foot (about 1 km) to the beautiful beach at Cala Mosche, known as one of the most beautiful beaches in Sicily, not only for its clear water but also for the beauty of the surrounding countryside. Not far away is the entrance to the Nature Reserve at Vendicari, which spreads out over eight kilometres. Noto, a baroque town, is 8 kms away, Siracusa 35 kms, Modica 40, Catania 90. There are many very interesting typical local villages both along the coast and in the interior, small villages where the art of sicilian cuisine is still practised and where they grow the vine that produces Nero d'Avola, a wine that has reached the highest international levels.
