The farmhouse called Colombaino lies in the hills of Gello and Casaglia, a territory that has been known since ancient times for its iron and copper mines and for the beauty of its scenery, which runs from Volterra, the etruscan capital, to the Tyrrhenian sea, visible in the distance with its islands of Elba, Capraia and Gorgona. Recently restored, it has been furnished in a comfortable fashion with period furniture, chosen with taste by the owners and has been equipped with every convenience, (central heating, telephone, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave oven, TV, DVD). Around the house, which sits on the summit of a small hill, are large private grounds (23 hectacres) with olive trees, oaks, and mediterranean scrub, with a little natural lake, and hiking and mountain bike trails. Nature is unspoilt here, and there's a marvellous panorama: peace and quiet reign supreme. On the ground floor are the comunal areas: a nice, well-equipped kitchen with original fireplace, and the living-rooms, one of which has an old wood-burning stove. For relaxing outside there is a covered veranda with comfortable sofas and chairs, a second veranda with a large dining table, an area for dining and the 12 x 4m swimming-pool with a furnished, covered area. A short distance away, on the surrounding hills in the countryside, are three small towns rich in history called Casale, Montescudaio and Guardistallo, with good restaurants, and which organize gastronomic and traditional events in the summer. In about half-an-hour by car you can reach Volterra, the sea, the nature reserve at Bolgheri and all the super Tuscan vineyards famous throughout the world. Siena and Pisa are about one hour away, Lucca and Florence about one and a half hours away. The farmhouse is accessed along an untarred road of about 5 kms. The essential shops, restaurants and post office are about 15 minutes away.
