In the old days Amalfi was well-known for its hand-made paper: there were many mills doing this kind of work and Antica Cartiera was one of these mills. Nearly all of the old mills have been converted into private homes, and Antica Cartiera has been recently completely renovated and divided into two large, elegant apartments furnished with a large terrace divided in two so that both have their own private outside spaces. The property lies right in the old town centre of Amalfi and its position allows you to live and experience this small town in all of its aspects. Amalfi is a town rich in history, art and local customs and living in the old town centre is an experience that has nothing in common with a normal tourist day visit! Its history and of all its most interesting aspects and hidden corners can only be enjoyed living right in the heart of the old town, which is full of little alleyways, and small, hidden piazzas embellished by its little "salons" the bars, along with the beerhouses, the theatre and a large variety of restaurants, each one known for its particular specialities. All of this can pass unobserved, whereas it should be experienced, along with getting to know the locals. The Antica Cartiera apartments have been furnished with taste and are equipped with washing-machine and TV. The beach is just 800 metres away, and is reached via a short walk through the centre of the town. A car is absolutely not necessary as Amalfi is well served by public transport. Ravello is 7 kms away and Positano 17 kms.
